Creative Presentation

Partway through his Master Design at Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts, Abhi Topiwala will be presenting research thus far and work in progress. Reflecting on his identity and upbringing in Tāmaki Makaurau he seeks to make visible what typically has been invisible through design & motion graphics. Abhi uses methods of thinking-through-making to further understand the rich cultural practice of rangoli and draws parallels with his ‘digital rangoli’ experiments. Come hear Abhi’s kōrero, enjoy homemade chutney and a special look into his creative process.

Abhi Topiwala (he/him) is a designer and animator that is recently expressing himself through digital mark-making. For his Master of Design at Toi Rauwharangi he is exploring the idea of what his interpretation of rangoli could look like if it moved. He draws from his upbringing, identity, experiences and often times, what he eats for lunch. For AAAH2018 Abhi collaborated with Bhavesh Bhuthadia and Great India Restaurant for AAAH2018's public art project Eat My Culture.
